I got a B in maths, so no that thick..

Snap.  But I got mine a year early, then bombed my AO - cause the teacher was a fookin bimbo, who cared more about her shagged out MGB GT than she did about teaching maths!

Just didn't know whether mine was a late 10k or an early 20k service, as sits in the middle..

But T&D can never go over 10k miles, so it could only be on LongLife!  :smug:

You are a walking encyclopedia though Mr TT  But sorry what does T&D mean again?

Sitting!  I can't walk and type at the same time!

T&D is short for "Time and Distance" - the conventional style of servicing regime, whereby the servicing intervals are "fixed" - in VWs case - to a maximum of 12 months and/or 10,000 miles, whichever occurs soonest.

My car is a 08 plate and was registered on 17th April, so it'll be doing it's mileage before the time limits comes up, that's for sure..
I'm certainly not weighing out for a service myself when I can get it free on the contract. Just a bit annoying that some GTI's have the T&D and mine doesn't (or have I read something wrong and they are all the same as mine?). I have put a litre of longlife oil in it as it has used some in it's first 12k, so will just wait a month or two till it's doen the 3700 miles and get your advice again on how to change it to T&D when it's done I think..

OK - agreed, I certainly wouldn't be too chuffed if I had to pay twice for sommat.  But this is one area where VAG-COM is really handy!

Thanks T_T...everything is now clear. I also read your Service Regimes post in the Maintenance Section, understand it now.

Thanks

OK, cool.

So I would recommend you get it booked ASAP for a 10k miles/12 months "oil change" service, supplying your own LongLife oil (along with OEM filter and sump plug), and get them to recode it for T&D servicing.  This way, your 2year/20k miles service should work out fine in 12 months time - and will add to resale value amongst "knowledgeable" GTI owners/potential owners.

Does it work out much cheaper if I supply my own oil, OEM filter and sump plug? I take it I just order those from a dealer anyways??

Yes.  Obviously, you must ONLY use original equipment filters and sump plugs (and if you try to supply a main stealer with non-genuine parts, they will refuse to use them), but you can use any oil which has the appropriate VW approval.  With the filter and sump plug, you can often get a 5-10% discount, and the same for the oil.  Or you can get your oil from somewhere like Opie, or even Costco, where they seem to have a blinder of an offer on Castrol Edge.

Thanks again for the advice T_T ...I'll buy the above materials before my service in a few months.
