We've had quite a lot of issues with uneven wear and noise that would have you believe you'd got a failed wheel bearing with the Dunlop Sport Max fitted to Octavia vRS.

After seeing the Vreds at GTi Inters I was most impressed.

Its funny you should say that... the inside of my sportmaxx were so worn it was a complete joke... almost no tread at all, where as the outside was like new. Admittedly I didnt have correct tyre pressures for quite some time... but didnt expect to see them in that state.

....EVO did a test feature and I think that Goodyear's were the best overall - Would someone confirm or correct me please?

Yeah the Goodyears came out best overall .... the Ultrac Sessantas did however do extremely well (2nd overall) and easily won the 25 minute Road Route test, which was designed to test the tyres over normal road conditions for steering feel, ride quality and noise.  No other tyre came close to them on this test (which was undertaken blind - so the drivers did'nt know what brand of tyres they were driving on).

Full test here :

and another test result here :

JonnyG  - great great link to the pdf there. I hadn't seen the article in some time, so was relaying everything from memory, so apologies that my previous post was slightly incorrect regarding the vredsteins being quicker around the track!  :embarassed:

I would only listen to advice on a tyre from someone who has the same tyre on the same vehicle as myself.  For example, i had a set of Falken's (i know i know, i was young etc )on my prevoius car (Focus) and thought they were OK ISH.  My colleague had the same tyre on 2 cars he had at the same time and loved them on his Escort but hated them on his Subaru.  I think that the different construction methods used make some tyres more sensitive to the weight of a vehicle.  So the point of this is the report that EVO did is an excellent represention of what we can expect from each tyre so F1's or Sessantsa would be the only choice, which one will probable be determined by Price or, god forbit, looks.  Either way i think that both offer excellent performance for the GTI

....^Good point about the match between tyre and car. If you think about the dynamics of different vehicles involved, it's totally logical.

I was interested in the Vreds but plumped for the F1 GSD3s instead

Surprised to hear they've stopped making them
Is there a reason?
They been replaced by the assymetrics?

Looks like I bought mine just in time then!
Very impressed with them

But I'm sure the Vreds are excellent too!

....I don't know an official reason but reckon it's because the Assyms do everything that the Directionals, but do it better according to Goodyear.

Yup.  I must get the GSD3's offered to me every week on 'Special'  As this tyre was about for a few years there is going to be loads dotted about, give it 6 months and the price will be rock bottom!!
