Black or C/F VW Badges..group buy?

Pirelli_P and myself were talking, and have a question...

Is there anything that stops these badges being able to be stolen off the car? I can imagine that a nice C/F badge would be quite appealing to a thief? Are they like the standard badges and just twist off? I'm not too fussed if my black badge gets stolen, but if I'm paying in excess of £50 for a C/F one, I would prefer if it wasn't!!

I thought that a cable-tie could be used to tie it to something more secure, however a thief could quite easily snap/cut the tie if he wanted the badge that much.

Opinions / Answers ??

From what I understand they are direct replacements for the chrome pieces, so I surpose not. 

Having just taken mine off today to paint them matte black (a temp measure as I get the feeling that these might not be available for a while), the front one is more secure as to get it off in one piece you need to release the whole badge by the clip on the back first for which you need to bonnet open.

As for the rear (on the raised chrome version) this is clipped around the edge so unless you permanently attach it with adhesive then I can see any other way.

That's strange, mine (and on the tutorial from vortex) just twisted anti-clockwise and then pull up and out to release. This resulted in the badge and the holder to which it's clipped onto, to come out, leaving a circular hole in the front of the car. I then had to get the actual badge off the holder by prizing apart the clips. But in terms of a thief I think he would be more than satisfied with the badge and the holder, as he could easily sort it out later when he gets back home.

StegeP, is yours definitely different to my description above? As in it doesn't just twist out? I'd be interested to see if others on here had a different attachment mechanism. Mine is a 57plate car by the way - just incase they changed it on newer/older models.

....My front badge doesn't twist out - It's very securely fixed. My rear badge is bonded to the core lock mechanism, so even more secure. I part exchanged my stock lock as a part of the purchase.

My front badge twists out once I press down on the clip on the back, unless I press this clip the badge won't turn.

Hmmm ok thanks for the info SteveP and RR, I'll see if someone else posts a situation similar to mine, and will check my badge in the morning to see if anything obvious looks snapped/broken. Interesting to see that the tutorial that i previously mentioned said that the badge simply twists out. Maybe in doing so, you break a clip? ...although it was really easy to unscrew, i.e. there wasn't really enough pressure required that would result in a snapped clip..

Just checked mine when refitting the badges and found that the front one can just be twisted off but it did take quite a bit of pressure on mine, it is easier if it's unclipped first.

So this makes the point you raised WhiteGTI very valid and defiantly something which needs to be checked with the TTShop once they get the badges in.

Although, it may be too much to assume that a potential thief is aware that the badges just twist off, I still thought it was worth raising just incase it does happen, but I guess that is the risk you have to take.

I'm sorry if my comments put people off the group buy, but i suppose its better knowing before you have to part with a lot of money
