I like the way hurdy is going on about build quality and rust!! all that from a mk5 owner.....now where are them mk5 falling apart threads?? oh and the paint/rust issue ones too?  :lipsrsealed:  :lipsrsealed:

oh and mk4 owners... whats it like having the first vw where build quality was last of the factory priorities??
here a common quote from a mk4 owner "Well the window was there 10 seconds ago!!"

Mk3 all the way... not the slowest (mk4) not the worst built (mk5) not the most uncomfy (mk2)... that leaves the mk1 as the original and nobody can fault them...and the mk3 8v with it luxury, good build and there faster than a 2.0 mk4

OH and here a common quote from a mk3 owner " my car keeps stalling and won't idle properly" or " My car wont start somtimes" or " My electric windows don't work at all"

Most MK4 windows were sorted for free - just a metal clip!!

One good thing about the mk3 is the VR6 clutch - i have one to handle the power!!

and i rememeber the coilpack and maf problems of the mk4 giving similar problems to the stalling issues of the mk3... I'd rather pay £10 for a relay

Boney, Surely you can't compare a MKIII to a MKIV....let alone a MKV

I'm not saying that any of them were bad in their own era, but each version has to be compared with similar cars at the time they were built and not between each MK. In this respect VW were always a class up from their equivalents

Well steady 80ish or so, but given the fact my trip computer fades out after a few miles, it can't be that accurate :)
