He's not been online for a while by the looks of things.

I hope his sales order form or invoice stated it was the newer RNS-510 Touch version, otherwise he might have a bit of a fight of his hands.  :undecided:

MFD2 was £1845, newer RNS510 is £1450'ish - I'd be rejecting the car and getting Trading Standards involved if i didn't get an immediate resolution from the dealer

I understand your point, but if he accepted the car "as is" and signed final invoice plus signed the original order form and neither of these specifically state which nav version you have brought, then i think you'll be making it a far more difficult case to argue, that all im saying.

From his original post he said he was charged £1450 inc VAT, so perhaps he has brought a prebult/in stock car which was built before the change over to RNS-510 (must have been sat around for a while if so :undecided:) and the dealer has invoiced at the current nav selling price. I am sure it wouldn't be the first case of someone ending up with a earlier model year spec then they where expecting .

Let hope he's back on here soon to give us an update.

Agree Steve, this is a possibility. I'm not sure when the RNS510 unit replaced the MFD2. It would be unusual for a dealer to sell off a more expensive unit from a pre-built car at the cheaper price, as the manufacturing cost would be specified by VW following the factory build. The unit could have been retrofitted by the dealer who then invoiced it at the current price, but, more likely, as you suggest, the car could be it could be an older stock car and the dealer has just quoted from the current price list. Either way, I'd be looking for a replacement/upgrade to the RNS510, based upon the 2008 MY spec. For my part, I'd have no hesitation in arguing for this with the supplying dealer

When I ordered my car, my dealer order and invoice specified the MFD2 DVD Sat Nav/iPod, as well as the optional extra code. The build spec should show which unit was supplied and the dealer will know this. Easy to check.

Hope he gets a result. I've heard lots of dealer criticism on this site, it would be nice to get some positive response for a change.

I am the same with the dealers if something is wrong, when it came to issues with mine once they had reasonable chance to resolve the issues a form notice of intention to reject the car was sent to them and VW UK. The dealer principal then got involved and everything was sorted quickly and a good level of compensation was given. Plus now when I go into the dealers I always get treated well

No one should ever just put up with poor service from their dealer.

Very good point of the option codes, I take it these are the details on the sticker under the carpet in the boot?

And on the sticker in the inside cover of the service manual.

hi all, didnt realise this had caused such a stir on the forum!

To update you, I spoke to the dealer principle who is denying all knowledge and wont take it any further. So I told them I would take the matter up with VW customer services.

To be honest there are a few things that dont add up. I bought the car prebuilt from VW stock, Im fully aware of that. It was brand new on an 08 plate March 1st. My order clearly states 'Touch Screen Sat Nav' but it dosnt state the model number. RNS510 was available at the time but only on new build orders. I wasnt however offered an ED30 car as a new build, because as I was told they wernt making any more. (load of rubbish, as I know there are some of you guys on here ordered brand new build cars at the same time).

The dealer principle asked me why I hadnt raised the issue earlier on a car that is now 6 months old. My reply was, when I took delivery of the car and asked why the sat nav wasnt touch screen, the salesman told me that the buttons down the sides of the screen equated to touch screen. (not having any knowledge of the sat nav model numbers at the time, I took this statement as being true.) Further to this, I only realised I didnt have the RNS510 when I started investigating having Bluetooth Retro Fitted.

I need to speak to VW customer services about it, which if I get time I will do this week. I'll keep you all posted.
