abf is the engine code for the tall block 2.0l 16v, 9a and 6a are the engine codes for the short block 2.0l 16v. you should be looking at up to 170bhp for a standard well set up conversion into a mk2

Thanks  :wink:

Am going to try and arrange a viewing for Wednesday to look at a MK2 golf with the 2.0L engine out the MK3, not really what i had in mind as i wanted to go down the DIY route but i guess if the work already been done it will cut down what i had in mind by half.

I know the usual stuff to look out for
Rust around the doors, arches, in the boot were the spare wheel is, mayo in the rocker, signs oil in the radiator ask is there any history for the car or any for the engine that come out the donor car etc...

All i know about the Golf is it has the 2.0L engine, hes been keeping it in a RENTED garage for some time (don't know how long, the brakes need working on and he's asking for £650 for the Golf. Also all the electrics have been sorted turn out, don't know why they needed sorting but it is an old car and the owner is an Auto electrician, but I'll ask when i go to view.

I found out about the Golf from a close friend of mine who said " he knows some one who has a golf that hes had for some time" so he rang him to find out what he was doing with it. And it turned out he's just going to sell as he hasn't got the the time to finish it of and he's just going to cut his loses.

Any one got any advice, is there any thing else i should look out for, were on the engine is the engine code located and dose the engine code sate (ABFxxxxxx) ??

Just been on the phone to the owner of the Golf & found out some more info about it.

* Turns out the engine is actually out of a corrado 2.0L 16v
* The shell was Red but got sprayed black, may need a respray or a good polish.
* It has leather interior, rear bench is in good condition, front seat ant as good as the rear.
* There is a bit slack in the gear stick, but i know that is a common fault, easily fixed so i hear.
* No know rust, as it got resprayed.
* Big bumper kit
* The electice fault was the alternator wasn't charging, now working
* The ignition baroll was fcuked, so there's one key for the doors and one to start.
* as for the brakes.....

He said ,he took the car out for a test drive "and it is FAST AS FCUK" and when he when to stop it don't stop/slow him down as quick as he'd of liked. so it could be that the golf may need a brake conversion, new pad, servo. So if i go ahead with the buy the is first on the list.

I can now confirm i'm going to look at the golf on Wednesday..

^ don't mean to sound sceptical - but £650 seems very cheap? also, not sure if the corrado had the ABF or not? anyone else know what spec the 16v corrado engine was?

I see what you mean, his reason for sale was that hes bought a house and he can aford to keep paying the rent on the garage  :undecided:

If i start to get second thought about weather to buy while am there am just going to walk away, something else is bound to turn up some were, just needs time.

it carnt heart to look.

I'v come across this for the corrado spec, http://carfolio.com/specifications/models/car/?car=34034

I did't go to look at the golf, first, he had a dentist appointment, then he couldn't find the keys for the garage or the golf  :rolleyes: because every thing is in boxes and his parents are away and they may know were the keys are??? so  hes going to look for them and call me once he finds them.

Any way, i think i'm just going to forget about this one. (To much drama for me)

If the car is two different colours, ie black on the outside and red under the bonnet, then its not worth much more!
