SONY MEX-BT5100 HEAD UNIT
« on: 02 August 2008, 18:27 »
Any one else got this head unit?Fantastic unit,Great ease of use and excellant looks.Only one problem i have found though. When making a telephone call the people recieving the call seem to get a crackling and echoing making it difficult to hear the conversation. My end(in car) is clear as a bell.I think there's some interferance from the engine becasewhen i switch the engine off the call is a little bit clearer the recieving end.I think i need something to dampen the interferance? Can anyone help?Cheers in advance.

theres a small device u can get from ur average halfords called a "ground loop isolator" which connects to ur starter motor sum place and acts as like an additional ground to suppress the feedback sound u get..its a small thing located with the little audio bits n bobs.

thats one thing. OR u can just add a more powerful (thicker) earth wire for your radio...perhaps even a NEW located earth to the chassis sumwhere so it doesnt link to the battery terminal earth or any other that creates this interferance!

If you have ur phone in ur pocket or nethin mite proove a culprit to signal...but not usually the case.
The sony u have is the one with the on board microphone rite?? Theyr usually effective enuf where u dont require the external microphone, not that its an option. but er..see how u get on with a suppressor of sum kind...theres usually lil gadgets on ebay that made to suppress these issues.chek em out!

good luck with that!
Why pay big bucks when you can do it yourself???

Cheers ruji, I think i may have a problem with the bluetooth fuction on the head unit.spoken to the dealer i had it from and he advised me to send it back so they can test it.If there turns out to be no problem on the head unit i will take your advice and fit a suppressor.I know the one you mean, seen it in halfords.
