brake pedal jumps down
« on: 20 May 2008, 14:20 »
Right guys i have a bit of a problem with the brake pedal, when braking you push the pedal down and after about 1-2 inches of travel the pedal seems to drop a fraction. Its fine apart from this, as in its normal apart from the fact after about 1-2 inches it drops. it doesnt go to tjhe floor or anything daft. Its constantly increases in stiffness. It feels like its a mechanical slip asthoogh the bushes are worn :undecided:? i dont know though? i tried to have a look but i dont really know what the problem could be any ideas?

That is wear a brake hose is gone. Basically when you apply the pressure to the brakes, it pushes out on all hoses. So where you are experiencing a drop in the pedal, is most likely where a hose is ballooning so to speak. Get your car jacked up, wheels off, someone pressing the brake, and then check all hoses and you should find the faulty hose :)

Hope that helps

Could it e that the bush just slips? I'l have a proper look at the weekend but i'm not certain what it could be? any more ideas?

How's the braking when the pedal drops? Do you loose stopping power?

no you dont loose stopping power (i dont think, the car doesn't jerk or anything) so its not a dangerous problem its just well annoying!

That sounds like the brake fluid could do with a change. I take it you had the engine running when you did this test yeh?

Does it matter if it is a left bend or a right bend?
