1996 Golf Problem
« on: 26 April 2004, 08:22 »
Apologies if this has been posted before, but I looked through most of the threads and could not find any other references to my problem.

I have a 1996 Golf, 2.0 DLX - which appears to have a weird electrical problem. 3 months ago whilst driving, the rev counter, petrol guage, speedo, mileometer and clock, fluctauted up and down. Then the clock reset together with the milage to zero!! I have also changed the battery as well. and replaced "the chip" and reset everything. Car had a service everything was fine. Have just had the car returned, and again the milage has reset to zero, but now the oil guage light constantly flashes (yes it does have oil in it) and the ABS light is permanently on. I had problems before with the rear windscreen wiper, in that you couldn't turn it off, without actually turning the ignition off, and the radio will not hold any stations. If you set one, then turn the car off, you have to search for it again. Also if the air-con is switched on the fan for the radiator starts, but otherwise does not.

Any help appreciated - thanks.  :-\ ???

Possibly condensation in the ECU. If it has ever been opened for whatever reason (chipped?) it may not have been sealed correctly.
