£80 to fit speakers?
« on: 08 May 2008, 09:31 »
I have a VW Golf MK3 and only want some standard speakers better ones that are in the car as they are horrible, looking to have the front and back door speakers done and the speakers are like £30 a pair but MotorWorld want £80 to fit them.
Does this sound about right? Or is there anywhere or anyone that could fit them all for less?

The door panels can be taken off with your key...or something else thin and strong. Just need to wedge it down the side. D.I.Y. is def the way forward. Ive found ive been able to set up my entire system with a couple of screw drivers, my keys and sometimes an alankey. Im not expert at all, but ive taken my panels off plenty of times :)

You dont need to take the door cards off to change the speakers!
Well the main 165mm ones you dont! Not sure about the rear tweeters.

All you have to do is pop the grilles off and undo 3 phillips screws and the speakers come out!
You will probably need some cable fittings like spade connectors for the new speakers. Dead easy!

Emmm I hope it is easy I might give it a go, just need to buy the speakers first, any suggestions for around £70 for 4 door speakers what would be best? I wont need an AMP cos I  got a new DVD player for the car not a well known make but is better than the Sony CD player I had before.

In some ways things can be very easy for those that know but being rather useless with things to do with cars I will give it a go.

why pay for something you can do yourself? Fair enough if it's something mechanically challenging which you need tools to do etc, but if it's just a matter of pulling a panel off, screwing a couple of speakers in and plug 'em in!

If you're coming anywhere near cambs I'd do 'em for you too!
