Picked up my new gti today(pic's added)
« on: 21 April 2008, 20:27 »
Hi guys , Just thought i'd say hello , picked up my brand new gti today after waiting 4 long weeks , it was factory built when ordered but  more less got the spec i wanted , diamond black , 18" monza's , ipod arm rest & full leather & uk car , opted for the 3 year service package for £200 , going to order sat nav & fit myself .my previous car was a 03 m3 cab which was awesome but due to high running costs and heavy depreciation it had to go. have done 100 miles in the golf today and loving it , its a lot more fun than the m3 at lower speeds and smooth & easy to drive however do feel more power needed so might consider a remap.

Nice one Marc, know what you mean about easy to drive from the off, its nice and light and a car you don't have to think to much in to go at a quick pace.

Things you will miss,  lack of body roll, and suspension control, power, build quality, overtaking abilty, power sliding, induction and that exhaust noise....8000rpm overture

Things that will annoy you.....body roll, understeer , lack of power, various rattles, VAG service if you get problems

Things you will enjoy,  fuel consumption,  though if booted comes close to M3 levels, I have seen mid teens regularly on hard runs, but averages late 20's in normal driving....servicing costs overall are lower especially Insp 2!!( 2 to 3 times a GTI service),  Tyre costs.

Depreciation from new is similar %, but obviously the numbers on the Beamer are higher, so that hurts

When I go out its the M3 keys I grab for first 9 times out of 10, but the  Golf still puts a smile on my face
05 GTI DSG, Steel Grey,Monzas,Xenons,Leather etc.,  SOLD

Hi Marc19mw
Congrats on the GTI I'm sure you'll love it.
I too traded in a more powerful car, 2006 Audi B7 S4 for the GTI, similar power to your M3, for a GTI. With the rising cost of fuel and running costs, I decided the GTI was a "No Brainer".
I sometimes miss the pulling power of the V8, and that sound   but soon forget about it as the GTI makes me smile every time!
The GTI is easier to live with, cheaper to run, less weight making it feel a lot easier to drive, less conspicuous when travelling, cheaper to maintain and a whole lotta fun.

Plus the people on the VW forums are a lot friendlier!
