well if the paint shop are mixing it up to the actual colour thats on the car whats the problem if its original vw or not??? chances are if you did fine the paint code and got paint made up to it it would be completely different as paint ages and wears and changes shades  i would say just go with the paint match

http://www.cabby-info.com/paint_colors.htm well from these paint colours you can see if any o them are similar by getting tester pots?

if you think it is a VW colour you can narrow down that list by removing the metallic options (if paint is non metallic and vice versa) and the ones that will be too light or too dark.

or just take a list of the paint codes and pop into halfords or somewhere and compare them with the VW blues they have in their colour image book.

but it could be a newer colour by looking at it.. so i'd go with the colour match.
