help please, just bought new golf and buggered all ready

Hi everybody


Just bought a Golf GTI 150 T, 1999, and it seems to have brought gremlins.

 At first it was a few flashes of the ABS light now its crazy!

 The ABS light now flashes quickly and randomly and goes out when I brake quite hard, so hopefully something loose. But the stereo goes on and off while driving randomly too, and its usually in sync with the abs light. Also it has stalled a few times too while moving...

 

I have noticed a few times that the stereo sometimes switches off when the key is removed and sometimes when I return the ignition to 0.

Have you guys got any ideas? Heard of this before? I'm worried as I only got it yesterday

ABS sensor? Dont know about the radio tho? Again you shoud get the car plugged in to vag com or a fault code reader to see whats going on

Drove back 200 miles with just a few flashes of the abs light, most problems started today. Its just that the problems seemed linked which is why I am worried. ABS light does look like its a loose sensor- it just the radio goes funny while the abs light is flashing.
Ordered a OBD cable with vagcom.

Paid 2400 with 89k and pretty much fsh, good deal?

Sound like a good deal any pics? Where did you get your vag com lead - how much?

thats just the stereo powering down when the key is taken out it should do that not to sure why it keeps going of randomly tho. as for the abs could be any thing when i did my rear disc recently the abs sensor and rotor on the hub was well rusty could be owt like that dont worry too much iam sure you will enjoy the golf once its all sorted

Could possbe a bad earth, My old car used to cut out when i turned a corner and restarted when i was in a straigh line, as the earth was just loosing conection and and then re-connect when i ent straight!!! Crazy

Dirty/faulty abs sensor would make the light flash, but if its in sync with the other electrical issues then as above its probably an earthing problem.

The fuel pump relay often shorts and causes earthing faults that show on vagcom, its not an expensive part and easy to replace so you could try that first. Other than that check/clean up the earth points. You can find a list of them here http://mit.edu/dennis/www/vw/grounds.html although bare in mind its for American models so you have to reverse some things.

Hi thanks for that list. All the electics went dead tonight, and after wiggling a loom underneath the battery it would appear to be ground 1 from that link which is battery to body. Do you think thats it, would it cause more obvious problems with it being a major earth?
