Another newbie Advice needed on Milltek
« on: 03 April 2008, 21:52 »
Hey guys, have enjoyed reading the forum for a while now and gotta say it's given me some sound advice.

Im about to take the plunge and order a Milltek cat back system for my 08 ED30. Can anyone recommend the cheapest place to order one (don't need fitting, supply only). Have just read that Awsome are offering 10% so will call them tomorrow.

The other thing im unsure of is whether to go resonated or non? I do want the car to sound a bit meatier if im honest, but don't want to sound chavvy?

This is my second mk5 GTi after a short but sweet love affair  until I sat in an ED30 at my local dealer and set about getting one    . Gotta say im well chuffed with the performance so far! (less than 200 miles)

BTW, Hows the wheels 182_Blue? Hope your still pleased with em?

Hi, and welcome to the forum

I've spoken to a few people on here and was talking over the phone today with someone who HAD a non-resonated Milltek. He couldn't live with the droning and vibration it caused inside the car at motorway speeds and ended up taking it off. I have the full turbo-back resonated Milltek which isn't much louder than standard and I am very happy with it.

Try Roadrunner Motorsport in Nottingham - their Milltek prices have been good in the past.

I have the non-resonated, you can always fit the extra resonated bit after - luckily I dont do much motorway driving now but I could see what he is saying.

I had a non-resonated cat back... was a little bit louder inside. But totally acceptable imo. Now i have fitted a sports cat and it is alot deeper note. Is a tad loud, but no droning. I believe the noise will settle down when it gets run in.
I was going to get the resonated cat back when my car was 2wks old. Wanted to keep the factory freshness but give the car stronger vocals. Was advised against the resonated pipe. The sales guy ran a resonated pipe on his cupra r and took it off for a non resonated one because the resonated pipe was the same if not quieter than his oem pipe.

I have a vid on youtube.. may give u a little idea.

Vid is non-res catback. Will upload a vid non-res turbo back pipe when i have time to capture a vid. Passenger had crappy photography skills :)

Actually if your running a stock gti with a non-res milltek its not that bad, when you turn up the power you do notice a louder exhaust note

I forget how much lounder it gets, its quite noticable - not in a bad way though.

Thanks guys, just the sort of feedback I was after.

I'll check out some of the youtube clips and make a decision. Im actually quite happy with the exhaust note at the moment as it does seem slighlty deeper than my previous GTI. Im also getting more turbo induction noise, which is nice!       Have a carbon air intake and K&N to fit this weekend so im hoping for a change there too?

Has anyone else come from a starndard GTI to an ED30 and noticed they are a different beast? (apart from the extra 30 horses)

In what sense?  Its only really the power everything else is cosmetic

With the limited miles Iv'e driven so far, it just seems to attack the senses more from the fun seat. The engine note is different, theres more induction noise/whistle from the turbo, exhaust note seems deeper and obviously the extra shove

Don't get me wrong, my last GTI was faultless and I thought I'd keep it forever! But I didn't expect the ED30 to be as different as it is

i went for the non res and was hoping it wasnt too loud, and to be honest its not as loud as i was thinking it would be, infact ive had people in the car not even realise it was any different. The res just seems pointless to me unless your after total stealth. I dont do motorways tho so that might be a different kettle of fish, but i do manage to do 70 odd at times and tbh if it bothers you then your in the wrong car!

I have the resonated quad Milltek...it was on the car when I got it.

I have nothing to compare it with in GTi terms.  It is quite boomy at motorway speeds inside the car, so much so at first I thought there was a fault!

I would suggest you try and take a ride in a car with the set up you are considering.

Also bear in mind that it hits your insurance costs too.

I don't actually have much experience of after market exhausts etc and was even considering returing mine to stock...I wont though, as I would also have to change the rear valance!

Let the fun begin........Red Gti, full colour coding, DSG, Xenons, Winter pack, Lux pack, Highline, Sat Nav, Sunroof, Leather, Milltek, ABT rear valance, Goodyear F1 Asymmetrics....pescaras :-)
