But for the purest engine experience, displacement has no replacement. All other methods are simply attempts to artificially recreate the benefits of displacement.

G60 engines are in no way, shape of form similar to 8v engines.

in my household ive got 3 mk2s all with differant engines, 2 of which are installed by myself.

-1986 16v with an 'abf' with kr cams, four branch etc. this only cost bout £450 and produces 165bhp ( not much torque but loadsa revs!) on the rolling road. heres a pic:

-1989 5 door g60. this had the g60 setup installed by g werks with a 1.9 bottom end, gas flowed head and charger, four branch, red injectors, chip and pulley. produces about 200bhp and 200ft lb of torque. it has good low down power.
heres a pic:

-1986 golf 'c'   1.8 20v turbo installed by me using a k03s equipped engine from an octavia vrs. the engine is standard apart from a remap on the aftermarket ecu, 2.5" exhaust from turbo back (no cat), air filter and front mount intercooler. this produced 222bhp and 241 lbft (at 3200rpm ) of torque on the rolling road.this is an animal! fith gear spin ups in the wet are all to common . this cost £2000 for me to do (start to finish) and 2 days to complete.
This really is a easy diy conversion especially if you use a plug and play kit from quantum performance engineering.
here are some pics:
