R32uk, and how much where the price of the mfd2 dvd rom sat nav when they first came out???. Same price as youve just payed.

Its the way of the world mate, any electric goods deprieciate and replaced by something newer, faster etc. Mfd2's where a £1500 option.

EVERYTHING depreciates

Yes I agree. But somethings depreciate more than others. i.e. Plasma will depreciate much more than the Sat Nav. The point being that there is a million different TV's out there, but there is currently only one top spec Sat Nav for VW's. The TV your going to pay the price on the label.. the Sat Nav your geting for less than half the price the manufacturers are selling at.

Do the math

Your missing the point Blue, i was talking yearly depreciation. I have no doubt if you both resold your mfd3's NOW your get £800 for it or whatever someone is prepared to give you for it.
(same as anything these days) what its worth doesnt exsist anyone in the current climate.

Thanks StevePG i knew it was to good to be true.   if i remember correctly the police have to declare locally where they are going to be positioning them, i thought he had subscribed to some sort of data base with instant updates.

Yep they do, that's why I got the Road Angel connected as it does receive these updates in real time on the mobile GPRS/EDGE network  :nerd:

Works a treat, going up the M40 last week there was a camera van on a bridge and the unit gave me plenty of warning

Which model of Road Angel?  And do all RA models have this facility?  And howmuch/how does GPRS/EDGE work?

No not all the RA's have it it's only the new professional connected version.

The unit basically has a built-in Orange Sim so it can connect to the mobile network and automatically downloads the latest updates and live camera postions over the t'internet. It also allows you to capture positions of the live cameras and send these back to RA to share with other users.

The standard subscriptions is £1 per month or £10 a year more than the "unconnected" version.

Also it now comes with a remote control to access the menus or silence the beeps without having to reach across the dashboard.

Plus it has support for an optional windscreen or front number plate mounted laser detection module.

Here what it looks like -

That looks good!

A couple more Qs -

Is it easy to swap between two cars?

Do you know how it would compare with the Road Pilot?

Is it waterproof?

Yes very easy, it comes with two mounting options, either a small plastic disc which it clips into and also the unit to rotate (what I am using in the photo) or the older style windscreen mount. The plastic disc's are a few quid from Road Angel.

I like the compact size of the Micro Pilot and think its a very good unit for the price but believe the RA's database and the new self updating stuff makes it a better unit.

Don't believe so.

im not talking yearly so your missing my point, i bought my TV and my MFD3 at the same time about 6 months ago, i paid £1500 for my TV and i would be lucky to get £400 for it now, i paid £700 ish for my MFD3 when i got it and im pretty sure i can sell it for that if not more (in fact i know someone who will give me £700 + now), in my books that zero depreciation on the MFD3 in 6 months, and huge depreciation on the tv

ps, i would still buy the TV first though

lets face it though who buys things expecting them not to depreciate, i didnt buy it not expecting to loose something, but if i can recoup even a quarter the cost and have a years enjoyment from it then i will be chuffed

Your all missing maximuse's point.
It is dangerous to fit a 54inch plasma in a GTI even HD would not give a clear picture sitting that close.
