conical air filter
« on: 23 March 2008, 07:59 »
hi
on my 1.6 driver i am going to build a wall around the airbox intake, to keep the air cold (i don't have the pipe attached to the wing).
after that, is it a good idea to fit a conical air filter to the intake?

some carb models when air is to cold freezes the petrol could cause you more problems while cold weather is here

Carb freezing can be a problem, I would just put a K&N element in it, that would be fine

you mean that the carb may freeze because i'll have to cancell the hot air intake from the exhaust manifold? well, i live in a warm zone, and my hot air intake is not connected for years, and i never had any problems.
so without the freezing risk, will a conical element give any benefit?

No.

and you cant fit one to the end of the driver airbox anyway, it will be before the warm air feed resulting in unfuiltered air being sucked into the engine from around the exhaust manifold.

well fix that, otherwise the car will stall in cold/wet weather.  when the warm air flap is working properly it actually closes on full throttle, VW knew what they were doing ;)
