....I guess it's not only finding a dealer who generally has a good attitude anyway but the fact that I don't work and have plenty of time and I build relationships. I often visit when I'm passing by and I treat everyone there as an equal. I'm straight with them and they are with me. Hotrod has now come to the same dealer and I hope he will experience the same good service. People in Dorset anyway are usually more relaxed. The other factor is that there's less customers in the rural areas and businesses try a bit harder . I know an awful lot of people, not just on car forums, and I can bring them business as well as spread goodwill - I can also do the opposite!!

it wasn't so much the cost that annoyed me...it was the 'from the day the warranty runs out we don't want to know' attitude.....it's a shock from the other new cars I have owned...the goodwill guestures lasted for a month or two after...makes you feel a little more valued.

it's the VW badge that is the boot opening handle...

Guess they can't afford to honour anything outside the warranty period, as they spend so much rebuilding them whilst they are in warranty....great car........sh!te build quality........poor dealers........and to cap it all a direct subsiduary of VW AG  ie VW UK do not give a toss about their customers, or even if you bother to buy again.

After 20 years of BM ownership (and still running) yeah you get snotty, arrogant dealers, but at least I have had great backup outside of the warranty period if I can demonstrate continued BM servicing, so last VW for me I am afraid

I'm in the same boat as Redrobin. They have always given me good service and I even call in from time to time just to have a chat with the business manager and salesmen. Gilders Sheffield

Have to agree VW service not the best. Took me 3mths for them to fix my new car's highline computer malfunction. In the end VW UK gave the heads up for the dealer to replace the highline control unit. It wasn't like they would give me updates, i had to keep calling and bugging them. Made me seem like the bad guy. On tip of that they charge £45 just to plug in a cable to rest an CEL code?
Use to run an rx8, had trouble with high xenons, dealer spent good half hour when i just turned up fixing it and also using their computers to try to reprogram the speedo because i change tyre sizes. So spent more than an hour with no prior booking from me and they charged me nothing. Had corroding alloys replaced even tho they were kerbed, twice again free of charge. Really can't see that happening with VW.
The Golf is a great car, but like some here, don't think i will get another VW because for a premium car, you don't really get a premium service like my dad does with BMW.

IS VW a preium brand though? I would say not. It's inbetween your fords and your BM's but it's still no excuse for crap customer service.

If I was you I would tell them to sort your badge FOC or you'll take your servicing elsewhere. That should get em thinking.

well, I've raised a case with VW Customer Services....so we'll see what happens. The advisor was pleasant enough but apparently they have a new rule now.... Warranty expired=no goodwill from that day onwards ..and thats the end of it.

sorry lads ive just bought a mkv had it two weeks its a 54 plate and warrenty was out in december the stereo kept turning its self on when the car was locked etc so i phoned vw customer care and they ended up contributing 80% towards a new unit which i thought was bloody good  ( i bought the car private not at a garage)
