busy collecting parts for the Gearbox revamp to further improve the drive of the car

As said previously its the box from a MK4 GTI 2.08v, ratios are the same as my current MK3 16v box however the MK4 boxes are much stronger so it will cope better with the power hike the cars had!

I have put this on the scales (still full of oil) just out of interest to see the weight

started preparing the new box ready for refurb.. got a bit more to do before it can be painted, however this won't take place till i receive it back from having some alterations made to its insides, 

was full of bad dirt etc



got bits stripped off, and collected all part numbers for nuts/ bolts and other parts to be replaced for aesthetics and better performance.. including TT short shift for the tower which iv removed ready to refurb also

got most the dirt off, it will be treated once more tomorrow then as soon as i get it back from a rebuild with my LSD and different Final drive ill give it a nice coat of paint as per the box thats currently fitted

I've seen some lads swapping in cogs from the TDI's, whats the plan to lengthen the overall ratio or just a particular gear?

He's sticking a VR6 final drive in the new box as far as I'm aware.

I did think of using a 6 speed from Cupra R, but its heavy and i kind of like the brutality of how the ratios are now, just needs a little bit longer in 5th and i think it will be perfect for me and improve the overall drivability (its done the clock with the current box and my clocks go to 160MPH.) but it was on redline almost so it does need the extra legs that the VR final drive will offer.. its not every day the car is gonna see those speeds anyhow

Iv spoke to a lot of peoples opinions i trust and that combined with me liking it as it is now has made me decide on the set up ill try

also fitting a quaffe LSD to improve things further

not cheap but needed

Not going to lie. the car is a bit of a handful and a tad scary to say the least...

Not checked in on here for a while looking good Didn't realise you were running with the same box as mine though the torque must be mental! tshirtk2 has been helping me understand about my ratios and what I need to get what I want so I guess you must know the same.

I'm gonna be putting an ASD 02a into mine early next week, sounds similar to what your going for ratio wise, same ratios as 16v but longer fifth and taller final drive. Looking forward to seeing the results

Hi mate, yea its a bit mental in mine at the mo, i am running MK3 tower and shifter at the mo but have the MK4 full set up here along with the box 

let me know how you get on with your choice of set up 

Other news, had a spare 5 hours to kill so gave the car a full detailing and protection against the elements
