Old Girl

I've put a picture in the album of my little friend (the car!, the car!), if anyones interested.
I must say that album is a really good idea, there is some really cool machinery to see, and some really odd looking folk.

You can see that the bumbers are grey, this looks a bit naff, so I am on the look out for some black ones if anybody's got some.
Also, the little front lower spoiler is absent, so I would quite like one of those too.
The alloys are original, but need a refurb, I know where I can get them blasted, sprayed and laquered for ?180, which seems reasonable.
But these cosmetics are going to have to take a back seat.
Jobs to do are:
-Gear linkage repair kit.
-MkII 16V master cylinder install + grooved discs + performance pads + braided lines.
-Replacement of suspension bushings, mounts and stops for polyeurathene.
-Cut/Grind out rust on body panels and make good.
-Performance panel filter
-Clean engine bay, paint as appropriate with VHT paint, replace hoses with blue Samco.
-Upgrade suspension
-Sort electrics (considering full wiring loom replacement)

then I can:
Retrim seats and door cards in leather.
New carpets
Bigger speakers (behind exisiting grills in doors)
New steering wheel.

So there is plenty to go at !
Any advice or comments welcome.
Speak to you soon,
Joe

Nice looking car, Joe. Same colour as the tintop mk1 featured in one of last months magazines. It is a great colour to go retro with. Hope you are thinking the same, as it would look so classy.

I don't own this anymore - I just can't be arsed to change the picture

None of that Dizzie ! If I can get away with stiffening it up without lowering it, then I will.
Yes folks, this is very much a restoration project rather than a modification project.
I am fond of old cars, there's far too few on the road these days.
Motor vehicles have become very disposable, which is a shame.  These old golfs are motoring history - the first GTI !
I think that getting one back to its former glory is a good thing to do.

Hopefully add some more snaps after the bank holiday, going to do a little photo session with the Golf and my A4.

Cheers all,
Joe
