5 weeks on
« on: 01 March 2008, 21:03 »
so then ive owned my golf 5 weeks, was really chuffed with it but at the time couldnt drive it due to still having learner plates. passed my test on 12th feb and everything was cool.........

first 2 weeks no problems....then it all came.

1st. fan belt snapped whilst driving along a busy 'A' road.
luckily got a mate in the rac who came and saved me. put a new one on and off i went.

next day battery was flat as hell.
put it down to my sound system and not knowing when it was last changed.
rac guy i know sorted me a heavy duty battery.sorted.

next few days car felt weird once warmed up.
clutch got really light. hard to explain but just felt weird.

thursday. booked in local garage for full service and cam belt change cos last one was done £50000 miles ago!
thursday afternoon- drove out of garage and two streets away got to a t junction. tried to pull off. car wouldnt move. pushed back to garage. CLUTCH HAD SNAPPED!!

more expense.

today got car out of garage. everything feels good. washed car looks good. hopefully thats it for now. fingers crossed!

i know. nitemare hey!

i couldnt believe my luck. its just a shock to me as ive never owned a car before.
i realised that i would have to dig deep now, plus its 19 years old but all at once?

bank balance you could say is a little shocking now! :)

theres timing and theres timing but the bloke who sold me it got it just right.

end of the day tho he wasnt gonna spend sh!t loads on it just for someone else to reap the rewards was he? fair play to him i say. still i got plenty of overtime if i want it.........

depends on the car mate

i bought one - soon to be 18 years old

Drove straight thru its mot with only one advisory

then a flange snaps - fixed from my spares collection.

i got a 06 plate corsa on the drive - been in the garage 3 times in a year for warranty work

yeah see what your saying. just i planned to get my alloys this month and im gonna have to wait a month or two now.
oh and im not very patient

anyone know whats the biggest alloys that fit on my mk2 golf ?... i like the borbet 'A's.

looks like a 50 pence piece in the middle if you know what i mean.. fairly deep dish too.

with any car there is the trade off

old car = monthly maintenance
new car = spensive servicing and monthly repayments

depends if you like old school

at least your mk2 is on the road and you have happy years of motoring ahead of you... took me years to save enough for decent alloys etc so a couple of months isn't too bad and they'll be all set for the summer!

welcome to the club!

I dont know...my car's last owner spent £420 in the 3 weeks before i bought the car from him.. i was lucky his mk5 arrived early!
