Where's the competition?
QPENG is a 'lazy' solution - it's boxed. If you're afraid of wires, or can't be bothered to figure all that management stuff out, then just buy something that works as a complete solution out of the box.
There are a good range of solutions out there, but they're not as focused so they're not the 'automatic choice'.
OMEX for example - will probably have a map off the shelf, but will want you to buy your sensors from them, if you don't have the precise ones they want for their ECU
Megasquirt - incredibly flexible and if you know what you're doing you can plug in amazingly advanced modules from other people, but it's often supplied as a kit of bits, or it won't be right for your car straight away.
You're dealing with a pretty specialist market. QPENG have focused on a very slim piece of that market - 1.8Ts all have a range of characteristics that are similar. I suspect they'll have a range of maps on the shelf to suit the various variants of the 1.8T, but for some reason (and I'd love to know what that reason is) they decided not to include knock-sensing in their ECU.
Thing is, without any specific competition in the market, there's no driver to add this to their product - you want a 1.8T, you go to QPENG. Like I said - lazy (haha). £10 says thinking outside the QPENG box will get you more power, better diagnostics and also something that you can carry to your next project and re-use. If you decide you want a supercharged VR an OMEX or MS box will go with you. The QPENG will stay on the 1.8, cos that's what it does.
Do it once, do it right.
