Deal has been struck!
« on: 17 February 2008, 14:32 »
ok, went a visited my local dealer today, and have agreed to px my passat for a Mk 5 GTi DSG!!!

i think ive done quiet well at of the deal. Its an 05 plate in Diamond Black, 5 door, same age as my Blue GTi before. It has included: Factory fit sat nav, Highline, Multi funtion wheel with flappy paddles. Cruise control, full leather, Rear sensors, Lux pack, winter pack, telephone prep but i may remove that .6 multidisc changer in Arm rest, Smoker pack, XENON LIGHTS aswell!!.
Now for the not so good part. it has 17 monza's which will have to go!.It has also done 40,000 miles but with full service history and a 55 year old solicitor as its former keeper. It has been well looked after.

My car has been valued at £19k. The GTi with the above spec has been offered to me for .........£16750!!, so i get  £2250 cash back!!!.
With my private plates fitted, and a new set of monza II's back in their rightfull place, i would be back to what i shouldnt have sold last october!.

on the subject of wheels, anyone know where the best place to buy some replica Monza II's from as i do prefer them to the others.

The car is coming in March 4th so im having to wait for it.
The car the seller is part ex'ing for is would u adam and Eve it............. Edition 30. Nice to see he must of had a good experiance to wanna keep with a Golf.
In the mean time anyone with a black 5 door with xenons wanna post up some porn images to keep me going.
Cheers guys

Good luck with the car. You know you made the right decision.

Out of interest, did you lose any money going from the sale of your old GTi back to this one?

ok i cant do maths so here goes.
Bought GTi in october 2006 for £20000 +vat about £23500
Sold it 1 year on for £18500.
Bought 07 passat sport for £19275 in nov 07
px price today at £19000.
Replacement GTi, same spec all bar monza II's. Purchase price £16750. so my change is £2250 so far, but yet to see the car and will equip myself with reasons why it should be lower then dealer asking price.

i think im right in saying £2250 (money back)-750(money put down for passat)= £1500 surplus??

That sounds good.

So you basically let your old, well spec'd, GTi go for £18,500 about 4 months ago, and given that you seem to have lost very little on your Passat adventure, you are now back in a similar spec'd/age/mileage GTi as your old one for £16,750. Yep, it sounds like you're actually up..

That wouldn't have worked here in Ireland. A dealer here would have screwed you each time on the trade in.

Welcome back to the gti Phil!

Bet you can't wait to get back behind that chunky stearing wheel

What changed your mind then?  Was it the passat?

yes stiggy, nice to be back, the passat just didnt have any kind of fun factor whatsoever.I missed the feeling of being looked at whilst going down the road, that i was Mr Sedate estate car man.The 170 dsg ok was quick for overtaking but just doesnt feel the same.
ok the passat was very ecomicle especially on motorway trips but just could not come even close to getting the same feeling of " oh i wanna go for a spin", it just wasnt the same. Its the only car in a long line of cars that made me wanna buy another.

It felt like a relationship that just didnt fit, and knowing i could do alot better played a big part in both my wife's and myselfs change of heart. If i could i'd buy the same car back but someone else now has a bargain.Ok the new one has more miles on it, hopefully its in as good as condition inside and out like my old one.Its in Black which is what i was looking for b4 i got the blue one but couldnt resist the specification.
My main worry is what is the drivers seat condition like with the bolsters on the side nearest the drivers door, as my old one showed signs of wearing through, even at 20k on the clock. This one has twice the miles, and according to my dealer, hes always looked after his GTi and is trading up for an Ed 30.
Do i have anyway of getting seat looked at if i say can you repair it?? is it possible to or is it something that cant be done?.
