Have to say I still watch TG and find it very funny!! but the TG test track is hardly challenging and capable of showing which car is a best performer when many are too close to call. This is where the expert advice from plato and tiff can often be the decider on a much moe challenging track

Have to disagree with you about the track. Those corners were designed by Lotus and are very specific to what sort of handling traits they show up. And seeing as Lotus are pretty much king at making cars go round corners, I'll take their word for it. And as for drivers *cough* Stig *cough*. If you ever doubt his skill just what the Britcar episode.

....So, VBH makes you feel horny, Horney?

She's a big girl but she always seems to have a smile and a happy disposition and that's always attractive.

The stig is great driver but we have never seen him come up against anyone else... so who are we to say he is the best. I dont know much about race tracks (apart from knowing ever F1 circuit off the top of my head) but the TG is pretty crap as tracks go. Its simply flat with no inclines. A 1min track is hardly capable of testing all the traits of a car.

As for being designed by Lotus, it may well be. But I doubt its the only test track used by them, in fact i would be suprised if they still use it at all.. seeing as its actually a dissused runway :nerd:

Lotus don't use it at all. It was DESIGNED by lotus. It is just a flat empty runway and Lotus came in and marked up the track for them.

As for 1 minute track not showing up a cars traits that's total bollox. That's plenty of scope for testing under/oversteer, acceleration, braking, stability etc etc. Just because car makers like to use the ring doesn't mean you need a million mile track to prove if a car is any good or not.

Dude it doesnt even have any hills!!! Getting back to the point... it is not a better test track than the 5th gear one... its that simple.

Painting a few lines on an empty runway means exactly that!! Your limited by the runway!! And i also wonder how much time was allocated to designing a test track for a suzuki liana to go round?? A purposly designed track is a different kettle of fish altogether. Get a grip dude

Fella I don't want to argue with you but Lotus's own test track is pretty flat.

They went to the TG airfield and surveyed it and then planned a circuit with testing corners. Each one designed to test different aspects of the cars handling. 5G use better tracks but they use different ones each week. Sometimes cadwell, sometimes Combe, sometimes bruntingthorpe etc etc. Great for testing a car in it's own right but TG use their track to benchmark all cars against each other on a reasonable level playing field. The only variables are the weather as they use the same circuit and the same driver each time.

Hills a rwace circuit do not make! I've done a couple of track days on air fields and they're ust as hard and challanging as popping up over avon rise and getting a bit sideways under breaking into Quarry at Combe.

....I'd say that 'flat' circuits are harder simply because it's trickier to find braking points before bends. There's usually more 'landmarks' on a hillier circuit.
