could this be another common fault with mk2's?

mine was like that for a few days and then conked out completely and never started for 3 weeks :o

Sound like you might have got the HT leads on the wrong way round?

right update im the muppet who fit them ;) taken them all out and redone the plugs and leads yet again all in perfect still same problem cutting out etc etc but theres a hissing noise coming from the petrol tank area? :o

plugs are about a year old i reckon so thats not his fault probably mine just pissing me off now!!!! any other car would have been in the scrap yard by now

How much did u pay for your spary? Did u have any rust etc treated aswell ?

Try unplugging each ht lead one at a time when the engine is running (MAKE SURE YOU USE A WELL INSULATED TOOL TO DO THIS).
See if the engine slows down with any of the leads disconnected, if any of them make no difference then you have found your problem.
