car standing for 2 days...now starts but still with issues!!

The fuel pickup is on top of the tank, pointing straight down IIRC. There was a guy on here who couldn't get it to start and it turned out it didn't have enough petrol in it.

Defo try a bump start, and defo repeatedly prime the fuel pump as mentioned above - i.e. turn the ignition on and off (but only turn it so the dash lights come on) as this pressurises the system and makes sure the accumulator is full (the accumulator stores a "buffer" of petrol to prevent starvation).

Have you taken a plug out to check its sparking (or haven't you got the tools to do that?)

I am working alone at the moment as the car is at my mums and I live about an hour away so getting time to work on it is not easy! also all my tools are at my house so need to bring over some usefull bits and bobs!

I needed to change the plugs etc as it needs a service so its not like Im chucking money at it yet!

I will try adding some more fuel as im deep into the red...but as im trying to start it I can smell petrol towards the rear of the car?

Might sound obvious, but you've checked undernath for a petrol leak haven't you?? I guess this might depressurise the system and make starting difficult.

I havent but its only just come to me - my new parts arrive tommorow, going to put the car on a level surface, add more petrol, change plugs leads and dizzy/rotor and see what happens, ill have to get it on a ramp to check for leaks etc...

like the petrol pump cant get the petrol all the way to the engine? like the old Jenson interceptors! tried pumping the throttle but no Joy,

Is your engine code KR. If it is then pumping the throttle while the engine is off does not send more petrol to the engine.

Just recieved my new HT leads and the king lead is totaly different to the one that was on the car, think that it may have been killing the lead over time as its erroded to the point where there would have been a big gap between the coil and the lead so fingers crossed new HT leads with new  dizzy cap and rotor arm plus new plugs all courtesy of Beru will cure the problem, will fill the dam thing up too as I know that having this little fuel in the car wont be helping eiter...will post the results tommorow all being well!

well, it now is working but ive found other issues....

Im thinking that either the coil pack has been replaced at some point with another unit or I've just been sent the wrong leads...try and follow me on this one as Im crap at explaining things...

the old quantum king lead was a male to female lead...female connecting to coil...new lead is male to male, rubber is not long enough to go over the coil so im using a universal ht connector that Ive modded to fit...but..

when I first had the problem thats what I changed 1st..no joy, but the dizzy and rotor arm have been replaced now and the rotor is alot bigger and the dizzy cap is a much better fit, only thing is the ht leads are a very tight fit...have I been sent the wrong leads or were the olds ones plus the dizzy and rotor just the wrong ones?
