Project ideas... coilovers? (with pics)

As soon as the weather gets better and I can afford tax/mot on the 2nd Golf (feb?) I want to start sorting it out, besides cleaning it (inside anyway), do you reckon coilovers would suit it?* Chopped it down with photoshop:

Personally I much prefer only a very subtle drop, less than 30mm.

hell yeah, i love the slammed look! 

depends what you want from it though, i dropped my Corrado by 60mm and if im honest that was probably too much. I love the look but im certain it would handle better and be easier to drive hard with a smaller drop, its very bumpy and the splitter hits the floor regularly

I love mine slammed its on jamex coilovers with hold the road like sH*t to a blanket , I am putting on borbet A rims in march (9"+ 16 rears and 7.5" fronts ) slammed with wide wheels just the vw way sorry!!! the best thing with coilovers you can move them to suit you.

well when its finally on the road i will make my judgement based on the current daily being lowered 40mm on weitec springs and gas shocks.... which is annoying for long journeys (a bit harsh).

Not good, just do a 30mm drop, will handle better and you won't have to worry too much about scrubbing on fat tyres should you do it, its a hard balance, fat tyres don't give anymore grip unless you put more weight on them!

Are you sure thats right?  Surely they give some more grip as more rubber is in contact with the tarmac?

If you think its harsh on 40mm weitecs its gonna be a hell of a lot harsher slammed on the deck.

Are you sure thats right?  Surely they give some more grip as more rubber is in contact with the tarmac?

If you disperse the load(weight of car) over a wider area then there is less actually holding it down, you are correct but there are limits to where the grip will be sacrificed, as water on the road could lift the car up slightly, I have no facts but the laws of physics will come in somewhere to underline this.
