Ordered a new GTI
« on: 15 January 2008, 13:54 »
I was asked to introduce myself to the MK5 section of the forum so here I am.  To repeat myself from the post I made in the new member section:

I ordered my new GTI on Sunday so thought I'd join a forum or two so I could meet and learn more about my new toy!  Unfortunately I have to wait 3 months for my car as the options I wanted ensured it was going to be a factory build:

•   Volkswagen Golf GTI 2.0 Turbo FSI 3 Door 200PS Manual
•   3 Door
•   6 Speed Manual
•   Interlagos Cloth Upholstery

Options I went for:

•   Metallic Steel Grey Paint
•   18” Monza Alloy Wheels
•   Rear Parking Sensor
•   Winter Pack (Heated front seats, heated windscreen, heated windscreen washer jets and low washer fluid warning light)
•   Multi Function Steering Wheel
•   Front Centre Arm Rest
•   RCD 500 Radio / 6 Disc / 10 Speakers
•   Luxury Pack (Electronically foldable door mirrors, reverse activated kerb-view adjustment on passenger’s door mirror and rear reading lights)

£23k well spent?  I'll know in three months

The GTI is all I need.  I'm coming from a V reg Astra 1.6i LS, so it's more than an adequate upgrade, hehe!

Steve, you are in the position I was in 3 months ago... I ended up with the edition 30.

Arguments in favour:

1) The 18" wheels are standard on the edition 30 (and very nice they are too)
2) The seating is half leather, half lovely fabric - saves 2 grand on the leather option (which I notice you didn't go for,  but I'll ignore that small point!)
3) You get just about the same MPG, but the engine's better still
4) It's a limited edition (well supposedly... I think secretly they are going to keep making them forever!)
5) You get the heated seats as standard (though not the other bits of the winter pack, so might not be enough to delete that option)
6) You get rid of all that black plastic on the bumpers (as its colour coded)
7) It allows you to deselect grey and get the best colour (which is white - see other thread)

Seriously, the difference between the ambience alone between the material only and the edition 30 interior did it for me. I couldn't afford leather but wanted a bit more luxury, and the edition 30 hits the nail on the head.

(I dunno why I'm trying to get everyone to buy my choice... Your spec sounds great - it's going to be absolutely fab)
