mk1 rolling shell?????
« on: 16 November 2007, 17:20 »
right im going to look at a mk1 gti rolling shell, its got the suspension etc (sport so im told) its got the fuel tank aswell and the filler neck and all the interior is missing inc dashboard and does not have a wiring loom so no fusebox etc the front wings are also missing. the good point is it is supposidly rust free so what im wanting to know is what to look for any bad places where they rust (sills, bottom of windscreen???) and how much would wings etc be if its any good and can get it cheap (hes wanting £500) i would get it and put a mk2 16v in it

the new ist mk1 is 24 ysold so rust is easy!sills arches, wings, skuttle panel, bulk, head. where clutvh cable goes through,(tend to split n cable pulls through)
basicly keep your eyes open mmate, the filler neck causes trouble but most swappedfor s/s
hope all is good

well i went and looked at it and WOW there is absolutely no rust at all well i suppose it has been in dry storage for about 20 years    just too much work for me as it is just basically the body with doors, bonnet and tailgate but nothing else and it would take a lot of money to source all the parts i think i will just stick with my mk2 project for now, better get my arse in gear and get it finished
