What a missed opportunity.

If GGR can release 300 reliable BHP from the Focus ST why couldn't Ford have given the '500' an extra 25BHP and made it a run out special.

A bit of extra kit and stripey paint just aren't enough.

The main reason is road tax.  That extra power would mean it would fall in band G (same as a Bugatti Veyron!) so if some reports are to be believed it could be £1000 in a few years, so most (apart from the 3MPS/R32) hot hatches keep below 225g/km of CO2.  This is one reason why the focus RS has been shelved.
