trim is peeling off & handbrake's loose!
« on: 22 October 2007, 21:51 »
Hi chaps,

The trim on the side of my car is coming away. It seems the little plastic clips have perished. Does anyone know what the best solution is? should I try and get some new plastic clips? if so where? or should I superglue it back on?

Also, my handbrake is very loose and when I get out or in the car there is loads of creaking and the car moves. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance fellas.

New trim of ebay should be quite cheap and a permenant fix unlike sticking it back on.. And take it into a local garage and get the handbrake tightend, quick and easy job!

Lads,

Thanks very much for the replies. I'll try the bay for the clips....

Also I'll try going to the garage to get the handbrake tightened. The funny thing is that it's just been in for a major service where the handbrake was tightened - I hope it's nothing else!

Definately get new clips and grommets from VW, don't go using tape, it'll be a right mess.

Regards to the handbrake.. Take out the rear ashtray and you'll see the two handbrake cables going into the handbrake mechanism with adjusting nuts on. It's easier to adjust than pushbike brake cables

I think I will go with the gromet clips, I like things to be right on the motor.

As for the handbrake - I have actually taken the rear ashtray out and I can see the two nuts attached to 2 long steel cables. They appear to be very very loose and the whole things just flailing around.  :undecided:

Just make sure you tighten them up evenly so the bracket the cables attach to is straight :)
