Cleaning induction cone.....
« on: 15 October 2007, 00:03 »
Took off my induction cone the other day to clean it and then re-oiled it, but i think ive over oiled it, anyway wondered if anyone had cleaned theirs recently? recon it would be ok if i washed it in warm soapy water rather than using the cleaner they give you as its in a spray can and not that practical to use? Ive got a foam Raidhp cone by the way.

i wouldnt, id only use what your supposed to or it could shrink, dry out etc and as its foam u dont want it to do this or it could crumble and end up getting sucked into the engine...not good

Cleaning in petrol usually works OK - as would any decent solvent.

Ive always thought Petrol was the most dangerous thing to clean it in!! being flammable n all that!

cleaning in warm soapy water sounds the best thing to do ... RaidHP cones are pretty well built, I doubt it would crumble up.

Petrol is fine as long as you take appropriate precuations - soapy water being basically an surfactant will supsend dirt/oil particles which are washed away with water. You may or may not release all the dirt and oil as the ionic attraction to the surfactant is fairly weak - which is why you need to scrub or agitate anything with soap to obtain a thorough clean.

Solvents such as petrol on the other hand actually break down the ionic attraction in the dirt/grease molecules and as such create a solution which may be more easily removed from the filter.

I agree with Pete, K&N kit is really good. Plus has the advantage of having red oil so you can see you've got good coverage.

Just rinse it from the inside out, otherwise you'll force the dirt into the filter (ie towards the engine)

well this is all id use, but i have a K&N and he has raid so i assume raid do a similar kit??

had my K&N kit for about 10 years now and cleaned various K&N's on my cars and iv still got loads of the stuff left
works a treat, instructions are included, piss easy to do, most annoying bit is having to wait for the filter to dry
