I doubt you will destroy a ctr tbh. Standing start then i have no doubt the r32 will be quicker, but rolling they have near identical 0-100 times and the 60-100 time is actually quicker in the ctr so i would imagine it would be down to the driver. I have had a few mini run ins with the r32 and was very unimpressed seeing as they are much more expensive, awd and 3.2 litres. I would much rather have a remapped ed30

i wasn't really setting it up as an r32 v ed30 v gti as you've probably discussed it

just r32 against other non vw cars

i'm especially interested in the looks on the driver's faces if you managed to hang round long enough

Well then i would hope to meet one in the wet or on a nice juicy incline (or from stand still as you put it)!! I dont think price has anything to do with it really.. as we could get into a totally different discussion as to the fact that alot of cars are overpriced for the power they give. Accepted that the R32 is slighty over priced but like I have stated previously I paid less for mine than many would have paid for their Gti's. So like the Murphys in not ....

And if we are talkin about remaps and stuff then a nice stage4 would do nicely.. (as long as someone else is paying)

Its quite an underestimated car and for some reason because it set the benchmark 6 years ago people people feel the need to show how much better their latest gen hot hatch is, which i still dont understand? If you like it, then buy it. I have shown up a few next gen hot hatches and its a great feeling to know a car, that has been out for ages and other manufacturers have used to set standards, can still beat these new 200+ bhp cars  The FN2 is a huge sidestep and tbh cant compete to well allthough as a package it holds its own very well. The japenese ctr the FD2, however, will give every current hatch out their a run for their money with its pure race spec

Fair play!! I do agree with you there as a couple of years back I was lookin to get a hot hatch and the ctr was my first choice.. simply because it was priced right and went like stink! not to mention the rave reviews it received from many motoring fractions. Its just recently it seems some of the earlier models hav slipped into the chav price bracket and seem to want to race anything from the lights, from porkas to mobility scooters.

I still lookin to murder one though!!

i had a race "childish" with an R32 sunday morning, up rossendale by pass for any one who doesnt know it its quite steep and stright and over 1 1/2 miles, it was funny really the R32 owner came stright along side me and slowed down and then booted it, and so did i to be honset it wasnt close i pulled away quite easily, by the time we hit the brow i was quite away ahead, i slowed down and he caught me up, he started flashing me, i noticed he was smiling so i pulled up further on at a laybye, he got out of car laughing saying what the hell have you done to that, my car has a remap and is supporsidly 310bhp, i like the R32 its a better looking car than he GTI/ED30, but an ED30 remapped is quite a lot quicker and thats a fact.
black ED30, ipod, tints, armrest, superchips ecu upgrade. very good looking. manchester united season ticket holder since 1984, been to over 40 european away games.
