The lowdown

I'm new to all things Dub after years of Mini love so you guys can help me out if you'd be so kind by answering what will doubtless be the first of a series of 'culture' questions.  :embarassed:

Lowering/slamming/whatever....
What's the deal with this? Does everyone do it or just some of you?
So if you have or you haven't please tell me why.
Don't really fancy it myself at the mo but am always open to persuasion.

Makes the car look much better imo, not much else to it really. It makes the car handle better, but I think its mainly done because the car just looks 100 times better when its lower.

I'v personally not done it because this is an inbetween car so I'm not going to spend any money on it, but will be once I get my "proper" one

As with our trusty old minis there are quite a few options for slamage with VW's and as has been pointed out above it's for both looks and handling.

My white GTI (which I am sure you remember) was lowered 40mm and I liked the stance it gave it, not scrappingly low, but looked visibly lower than standard. Why did I do it? Well 3 reasons really:

1) My existing shocks were pooped so they needed raplacing anyway so a lowering kit was only slightly more expensive.
2) I like the lowered look
3) It does improve the slightly wallowy handling of a standard MKII 8v.

And of course there is the old adage "If you ain't rubbin, you ain't dubbin."

When I've lowered mine I'll pop up for a day and you can have a drive and then compare it to yours. That'll give you an idea on looks and ride as to whether one day you may want to go down that route.

i do it simply because it looks cool. in my opinion if you only ever do one mod to your car, it should be lowering it. eg: fancy alloys on factory suspension? rubbish!

I havent done it, instead i replaced the old knackered stuff with STd parts.... one because it would of meant after lowering it i would of bouthg wheels, and then lights and then etc etc you get the point.

End result was amazing.... really stiffened up the handling and felt solid on the road!

And modifying cars can have its upsets... would rather keep it std like it left the factory.... well almost
