this might sound stupid but why do some gti's have an ariel on the roof and some dont, mine dosnt and think it looks better but why have some go them on the roof??

if the car is fitted with mfd 2 sat nav, they dont use the long pointy aerials, only short shark fin style like mine

Never heard of this. AFAIK, all UK Mk V Golfs have either the VW beesting aerial or the shark fin Sat Nav type. Was your car an import or has a previous owner removed it and filled the hole in ?

nope not an import and i doubt the last person has done it because it was a middle aged woman??ill take some photos after dinner and post them??

Earlier model year mkv golfs 04 and 05 I think had the aerials in the rear window. eg My 04 GT TDI had no aerial on the roof but rather in the rear windscreen which looked better in my opinion. My 06 R32 however has an aerial on the roof, I do not have sat nav or anything. VW rolled it out to cut costs. Aerial in the rear windscreen is more expensive. Hence the whole cost cutting approach we have been hearing about for the MKVI Golf. They started to cut production costs already in the current generation

if you have factory satnav you have shark fin on your roof.
(P.S. Factory satnav is overpriced piece of hardware)

arhaa mine is an 05 and have just been to look at the rear window ariel is in the window like my old scooby, i think it looks well better!!

I concur. My 54 reg TDI didn't have an aerial and I was most displeased when I saw one sticking out of my brand new shiny silver ED30
