it is now illegal to change spacing of letters/numbers on your plates.  If they are not in standard format you run the risk of getting done - plus it is now an item that is checked when your MOT comes round.
Incorrect plate = fail!!   (see Auto Express this week)

....I haven't seen this week's AutoExpress but hasn't this law been enforcable for considerable time (several years!) and a blind eye is commonly turned?

I used to be a fan of private plates, thought they looked cool and did make the car stand out and back in the day hide the real age of the car.

So when I brought my new GTI last year, I had a long hard think and came to conclusion my friends would think I'm a flash barsteward and decided against it.

My personal opinion is that personal plates are everywhere these days and especially the current style, i.e. MY07 CAR and that my car makes me stand out a bit anyway, and I don't want a private plate to make me stand out even more, especially in London.

Just my opinion!   :nerd:

I have had the same private plate on my last four cars. It is a bit of a pain transferring it every time, but worth it. I never forget it when at a pay and display meter that asks for the reg no. On the RARE occasions that I have been pulled over by the Fuzz, again I can remember the reg if asked. It pre dates the model (being a 1992 J reg) and also means that no-one knows the true year of my car (is it a brand new 57 reg or is it a 56 reg?). The best bit of all was that it was only £249 including the transfer fee and is about as near to my name as I will get without spending £0000000's. I was even offered £5,000 for it from a Japanese/Chinese bloke last year....and I still said no. :smug:

When I got my car I did look at getting    VW 0 6OLF

Was around the £800 mark at the time.  Looked the other day and is not available anymore.
