I care!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
35mpg from 227bhp in a useable everyday package.
The fuel consumption is the cherry on the cake.
Would you have bought a GTI if it only managed 10 mpg and every other hot hatch managed 30?
ok whats your town average mpg? there is absolute no way the car will average that even it it leaved on
a motorway doing 60mph at its life. That means your getting 370 to a tankfull which is impossible, and yours is more thirsty ed30
Fair enough.
But.
I am running in my ED30 so no more than 3500rpm(ish) but still getting along very (very) well, no motorways over here all 'B' roads so no steady state running, just completed an 800 mile round trip and got 32.4 mpg outward (95 octane because of free dealer tank fill, engine very tight).
Return leg 35.47mpg, 98 octane, 60-95mph 'B' road fun (95mph = 3600rpm). 382 miles showing on trip computer for return leg with 30 miles showing until fuel tank empty, car took 49 litres to fill out of a tank capacity of 55 litres and MPG was measured from 'fuel to fill', not from computer, therefore 35.47mpg.
I could have stretched 400 miles out of the return leg tank of fuel.
I don't know my round town average as I haven't owned it long enough yet but as we don't have traffic jams down here I would expect around 30 MPG. I'll let you know.
At a constant throttle 100kph (just over 60mph) on a flat straight road my trip computer shows 38-45mpg so your assumption that "it wouldn't do 35mpg if you left it on a motorway at 60mph" is, thankfully, not true.
