Bugatti making a loss per car- need evidence help!

The £5mil line was referring to development and tooling costs. Based on the actual manufacture cost, each Veyron makes a small profit.. but will never be enough to cover the whole research and development costs.
I read that in an interview with the head of Bugatti (Mr. Bscher ??).. can't remember which website it was on.

"rather the cost of the entire Veyron project divided by the number of vehicles produced at that time."

He could argue that any car is making a huge loss if you add up all the production cost, then divide that by 10, becasue so far you've only knocked out 10 cars so far, and call that cost to produce each car.

yeh i definatley agree and stated the 5mill is down to R and D costs etc. il have to look into the interview bit topher cheers.

yeh can see what your saying Tom, was reported that they was only going to make 50 but have raised it up to 70 now.

gotta look into it a bit more. he knows hes lost really, he needs a slap

^ I thought they were making 300?! Although I just got that off that wikipedia link and they also quote it as having an 8 litre engine... I thought it was just ever so slightly bigger than that!

edit (again!): Just done some checking and apprently it is an 8 litre?! I'm sure I heard it was a 16.4 somewhere?  :embarassed: I'm guessing who ever told me that just got it from the name, I saw sure I heard it on a car show though i.e. some one you'd expect to be a decenct source!!

Veyron 16.4 is the model name. There may be some info on the official Bugatti website about it, but I can't be @rsed trwaling through http://www.bugatti.com/bugatti/index.html

think the 16.4 refers to the number of cylinders and turbochargers it has  well thats what Tiff said last night    also said they were making 100 and that 15 had been shipped to the UK! Not seen one on the roads mind

It may have 16 cyls and 4 turbos but, go on the Bugatti website and look under Models, it actually calls it a "Veyron 16.4"

You know, I reaslie that the Veyron wasn't a money making venture on Bugattis part, but it seems odd they were willing to lose so much on it - I mean if they set the price at say £1Million, or even more, I kinda doubt it would've effected sales very much!

I dunno just a thought I had!
