Mk2 dash speakers
« on: 03 September 2007, 11:21 »
do these give out much sound at all? they are speakers located right at the front of the dash in the corners near the windscreen ... is it worth buying newer ones or not really? looks as thought they are made from paper?

thanks

I recently changed my ones and yep the difference is very noticable. The old nokia ones looked and sounded really crap compared to the JBL's i replaced them with. Definately do it! Bit fiddly though.

You could try something like these :-

http://www.caraudiocentre.co.uk/product_m-infinity-ref3012cf_p-22435.htm

I had a set of these in my first Golf and the improvemnet in sound is well worth the money and work, I had to cut a small amount of material out of the original speaker hole and the fit was tight so I ended up haveing to solder the joints as there was no room for spade end connecters but as I said well worth the time and effort

I dont know what size they were as i got them off someone off here a while ago. The jbl's were a straight fit apart from the spade clips which were fiddly to put on.

They make a biiiiiiiiig difference.

Changed mine recently, couldn't believe how shoddy the standard ones are.

Fiddly to get old ones out as they are held by two screws but windscreen is right in the way, obviously put in before the screen at the factory! Also a tight fit to get new ones in as they are deeper than the standard ones.

I got some pioneer ones off ebay for about £20, 100W.

Also replaced the door pocket speakers with some uprated 130W pioneers (originals had stopped working!) and the rear 6x4 speakers (either side of the parcel shelf) with some infinity's.

Sound quality's 10x better now!

yeah, forgot to mention that! get hold of yourself a ratchet set with a 1/4 inch drive bit then slot a screwdriver bit in the 1/4 inch, thats the easiest way.

^^^ Just to confirm the above, thats what I ended up doing or you could just launch a wheel brace through the windscreen
