Power difference.
« on: 27 August 2007, 19:38 »
Hi,

Recently changed the 05 Gti for a new 07 model. The main difference in the 2 cars  is the 07 has air con as standard ( horrible  Irish spec) where as my 05 did not. My question is that I definitely notice the 05 car was a lot livelier in all  gears and generally felt much more eager just to go.My wife drove it also and agreed without doubt. Is the a/c the reason as I have been told ,rightly or wrongly,it takes some power away from  the engine or have I a car that just will loosen up as time goes by,current mileage 2.500 km.Any opinions greatly appreciated.

speaking generally. aircon does use engine power.. not sure how noticeable it is on a 2l car mind... and the car will be tighter then a used one..

My car has nearly 3000 miles on the clock now ( not sure what that is KM's ) and is loosening up nicely all the time. I came from a 225bhp Leon Cupra R and the GTI felt sluggish at first , but it is now starting to fly.

I think it is fairly common knowledge that modern VAG engines really loosen up from 10k miles.  Indeed, my last S4 really became noticeably "looser", quicker, and more economical at about 13k miles.  I wonder what my RS4 will feel like, when it gets to that!
