ok my turn................    Having the same car as you telboy with the same gadgets and gizmos, ive driven the ed30 and can compare to somewhat. Now the ed30 has more top end grunt and from 60mph upwards, would give our current GTi's with DSG the wave bye bye.But i think the best answer is to get the car Revo'd or something simular. If you price your car against the same spec ed30 , you will be paying 10k minimum. That is a real no brainer. The Gti we both have is more alert of the mark the the ed30 due to haveing the slightly smaller turbo and doesnt take as long to get up and go, ive been told that the Gti DSG with revo's remap will make the car out perform a standard ED30 right across the speed range ( unless the ed30's chipped already! )There isnt really any reason why to change is or if you are like me "just cus it has an 07 reg" or "the latest thing" or "Newer Version".then part with 10 grand. Thats really only why i would really change mine cus its new and goes quicker, but for £500 you can in my opinion go as quick and pay way way less. I would have a new car tommorow if moneys no object, but just bought new hse, baby is imminant arrival and this one point the nail in the coffin, missus now wants fiat 500 when it arrives , so my blue baby gets a rest from day to day runaround and she can have her car!, and mine will have its promised remap for £500 at Revo dealers in Portsmouth .

Phil & TT,

both have very valid points and have come back with some good reasons why not to change. Plus the rest of the members who have taken the time to add their bit, thanks, I do appreciate your time and views.

I think my best option is as both TT and Phil have said, keeping the std gti and having it revo'd with a new back box etc, 260bhp+,  enjoy the car for a bit longer and wait and see what happens in the market with the mkvi?

What a dilema though to have eh? :undecided:

Thanks again, any other views always welcome!

....I would start off with the Revo Stage1 at about 240 bhp. It's less aggressive for road use and anyway you can later just pay £50 and upgrade to Stage2 if you want.

Even a Stage1 GTI with mods will probably outperform a standard Ed30, though it should be more about driveability than road racing in my opinion.
