Why is my 8v juddering in 4 & 5 gear ??
« on: 20 August 2007, 19:31 »
My 8v digi has developed the habit of juddering at motorway cruising speeds.  It happens at 3500rpm on a steady throttle in 4th and 5th gear.  If you floor it the judder stops.  If you release it the judder stops.  dont know how long its been like this as its in town most of the time.

as always, any help much appreciated.

I am having this same problem, quite scary as i dont have rac membership. Erm i take it leads and plugs and dizzy cap are ok? otherwise, think the hal sender can do stuff like this, let me know if you get it sorted, hope this helps.

This happened to me not so long back. Turned out to be a loose circlip on a fuel line which starved the engine of fuel, as it was leaking out a little. It would judder in the middle revs, flooring it or throuttle off and it would stop. I could smell petrol after I had stopped, so had a look and found a loose pipe. Nipped up the circlip and the juddering stopped.

Maybe worth a look.  :undecided:

i've got a similar thing to this! but i thought it was down to the car having fast road cams and the like! i've just had the leads dizzy cap and rotor arm replaced so its not them!

i'm being dumb but where is the best place to start looking?

What is the Hal sender and where is it located?

cheers for sugestion but theres no smell of petrol anywhere, could faulty fuel pump cause this.

Had an old guy at work (I work in IT dept  :undecided: ) suggesting 'bunged up injectors' and to get some cleaner for it.  Really has me stumped, dont know which way to turn.  Dont want to waste my money on parts I dont need. aaaahhh!!!   Need to get it fixed soon though as GF is already suggesting getting

a proper car

Yeah know what you mean dare not take it on long journeys which is ridiculous! the Hall sender is the electrical connection block inside the dizzy. When it is faulty it can upset timing and idle i believe i am not too sure exactly how it works i better read up on that. Im sure someone will be kind enough to explain given the chance. Hope this helps. Yeah worht trying fuel cleaner im gonna try that. Has it been stood for a while?

only a couple of weeks while on hols.  It has had the timing belt changed recently by local garage.  Guy that did it used to have 8v so assumed he knew his stuff.

GF normally has the car through the week as she is only doing about 15 - 20miles a day.  Trying not to rack the mileage up with my commute 70+ per day.  Only spotted it when I took it to Leeds to get a quote from paint shop.

these are quite common for the vacum pipe from the inlet manifold to brake servo , the rubber pipe preish and causes air . you should hear it hissing if theres leak might be worth a look
