Are the miles important!!!

Surely the point of having a GTi is for the smile factor, so perhaps the question should be how many smile's per gallon. Well lots with mine but mpg is 12-17, ah well it does put a smile on me face and makes a great noise.

Last MOT I had the chap told me the car was 20 times over the limit of a modern day car, bring on the sunshine!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, you're quite right.  But when you're on your last tenner of fuel to last a whole week and you have no more money. You tend to see how high you can get the MPG number  Running a GTi on £300 a month and i''m only 189. something's got to take a sacrifice. Also i like my licence clean.

thanks guys for the input im forever in your debt. already have a mk3 diesel, a mk1 cab , a saab 900 (wifes) a escort van and a gp225 lambretta. it was just an undifficult general question or so i thought

 howdy fella
I run a lammy too (honda 205) and have about 20 miles to the gallon on that lol
When I took the 8v mk 2 on holliday I drove it nice and easy (kids and missus with me) and it was the most economical car ive owned and was hitting 44 mpg..also got a 68 bug which is used mostly for round town and that is very  sh!te on juice but like the golf and lammy, big on smiley factor  :nerd:

wow. i wish i could get that much mpg out of my mk2 16v. i usually get 22-25mpg around the crappy streets of london. on a sensible/boring (80ish mph) motorway journey can a little over 30. but that's not the point is it? mk2s are for fun not economy in my book.

Usually get between 32 and 40 in my 2.0 16v ABF, pretty chuffed with that to be honest :)

Geez 40MPG hell even 25MPG would be nice!
I'm getting about 20MPG driving nicely and if I'm kane it, doesn't even tell me just blank!
8V G60  getting a sunday paper in morning costs me a fiver fellas

Saying that my daily turblowing diesel gives me 40MPG around town and 50MPG on long cruises on a 1.7 tonne car!

2 litre fast cams ported and polishes high flow head running bp ultimate... 30ish mpg on a good run... 20 - 25mpg in town.

quite chuffed with that tbh.

60£ to fill the tank, lasts about week and half to 2 weeks...

think it depends how you drive, there wont be a massive difference tbh, odd mpg here and there. also quite dependant upon the car and if its maintained well.

Depends if a motor is well kept or not, oil rings and worn valves can make a big difference in the performance which ends up more in fuel consumption.
I think it really doesn't matter you take an average and keep an eye on the prices at fuel pumps.
Enjoy the ride not the MFA!
