Hi, new to the VW world and need help!
« on: 25 July 2007, 21:34 »
Hello people! Just joined up! I'm a ford man through and through! Never owned anything but a Ford! 1.4 Fiesta, Escort GTI, Sapphire Cosworth & now a Focus RS! As much as i want to keep the Focus or maybe get a tuned up Escort Cosworth the money is better off else where! (a house); so i'm going for something more practical! I've been thinking about a diesel Golf! I've currently got my eyes on a 2.0 SDI? In silver! It's a 4dr and is bog standard! I want a 2.0l as i don't think i could go from 260hp to 60hp! Need a bit of go lol, and i would prefer a diesel rather than petrol for various reasons!

Anyway, basically i don't want to spend any money on the car unless i have to BUT i do want a set of alloys for it to make it look abit more of a drivers car!

If you lot could post up as many pics as possible or silver golfs (05 sdi) on various alloys that would help!

Thanks

welcome mate

if you can go for either the 1.9 TDI or 2.0 TDI variants as the SDI has NO TURBO = quite slow and won't give you the mid range punch you need for overtaking.

I only started browsing yesterday! Have no idea what i'm looking at/for when it comes to vw diesels! I'm after anything that looks the part, in v.good condition up to the price of around £7500! Whatever it is, i'd still be buying a set of alloys for it!

lol well only browse the TDI's and not the SDI's

not sure what you'll get for £7500 in the MKV variety  :undecided: may i suggest a MKIV?? for that money you'll get a good spec GT TDI 130, possibly an early 150 BHP diesel with a few nice toys. Plenty of torque which may help with the come down from 260BHP! PLus with a remap for around £400 will make them quicker still

Have a look through the MKIV and MKV sections as there is plenty of info there :afro:

will be older than the equivalent Golf and probably won't be as well equipped; will also only be 5 speed as opposed to 6

Just going to add my 2 pence.

I agree with Rhyso (still not buying all this diesel bullsh!t tho :D), for the 7.5K budget its worth going from the MKV to the MKIV Golf (imo MKIV is a nicer looking car, but hey) and getting either the 130 or 150 GT TDI. Have a look on Autotrader and see what it throws back.
