I've also got one but it doesn't actually do much because my alarm doesn't work! I can only assume that its part of the alarm and not the immobilizer. Mine was fitted after market by VW in about 1996 (got the reciepts).
If anyone has any ideas how I can get the alarm working again then i'm all ears.
