Hi There,

Last week i cancelled my order for a new M3 looks rubbish particulaly inside 11-15mpg who they kidding and bought a GTI which is fantastic. Most tellingly when the last M3 was launched everyone praised it for offering a genuine 911 alternative with 4 seats and the mpg was acceptable I know I had one. None of the road tests have mentioned the current 911 C2S in comparison worrying for BMW me thinks.

Get a Golf GTI wish id done it 2 years ago

Cheers

Interesting comments - good to hear this

Must admit I have gone off BMW since Bangle and his bunch of blind stylists took responsibility for the design process

Ok I test drove another GTI today and I'm serieously considering this one.

I'd be grateful for some advice though.

Firstly, on this particualr car the brake pedal seemed way to high (much higher than the accelerator) Is this something that differs fom car to car as I dont remember the first one being like this. If so , can it be adjusted?

Secondly, the salesman advised me to have a paint treatment , cant remember the name now, which is supposed to add a polymer layer to the surface lasting 3 years. For the £275 they also treat the wheels in a similar way and scotchguard the interior. Any good?

Cheers.

My brake pedal is level with the clutch, unsure if it can be adjusted.

Don't bother with the paint protection, you can get the full kit on ebay for £11.99 or there abouts, you can also apply to wheels. A good polish/wax is much better.

Just an update on this....

I decided to buy the car. Its a 2006 GTi DSG in Tornado Red with 18" Monzas, Sunroof, parking sensors, winter pack, arm rest.

So, nice car but crap customer service so far!

I still havent got the car even though I placed the order over 2 weeks ago. It was due to be ready Wednesday or Thursday last week, but there has been no communication from them at all. I was ready to cancel until they finally called yesterday. I've rang the dealer 3 times today only to be left waiting in a queue before being cut off! I work in sales myself and would NEVER expect a customer to wait in a telephone queue, especially one that wants to buy something lol. I sent a very sh!tty e-mail to the sales guy this afternoon :smug:

The dealer is Wayside in St Albans. This doesn't fill me with confidence, maybe I should stick to BMW!

Sounds like another case of good product and shoddy dealers, compensation for messing you around, free 1st service perhaps, always worth a try!

I picked the car up at last on Friday!

http://img514.imageshack.us/img514/6471/golfgti4zy9.jpg

I'm really impressed with the sharp handling and steering (which is light but I like it that way). Performance is great, feels quicker than the 330i (though not quite as silky smooth) I love the seats also which are comfortable, supportive and hold the right bits in!

Any downsides? Well the interior is a quality notch down on the BMW, looking a bit grey and having some dodgy looking plastics. I'd love to replace the section around the stereo with something nicer, has anyone done this? The ride is also a bit more fidgety than what I remembered on the test drive but it's always a comprimise and I'll focus on the great handling.

One annoying thing, I put a bag on the passenger seat which the seatbelt sensor must have mistaken for a human lol, so I drove all the way back from Sainsbury's with dashboard beeping at me :undecided: There must be a way round that surely!!

Overall though I'm pleased
