How easy is it to fit a back box exhaust?

Hello all,

Along with my suspension I need to replace my exhaust (its annoying when things need replacing at the same time)

So Im going to buy a DTM exhaust and was wondering how easy they are to fit, or should I get a Mechanic to fit it for me?

BTW, I've seen one on sale for £150 + vat, are these the average price?

two things one being an opinion.

1) DTM - they look absolute dogcock.
2) They will cover the back of your car in shyte from the engine.

Other than that, dead easy to fit, just jack up the back end and slide it on.

agrre with slick dtm are a very old chice now, very dated, but each to there own

yep dtms are sh!te, had one on my 8v which was on there when i bought it and theyd just come out.  the mess they make is stupid and tbh now they just look dated

i got one on mine atm...I brought it like that and can vouch for the amount of poop you get all over the back...mainly about the height of the rear badge

the reason being is that there is a vacuum created at the back of all golfs to keep the back ends on the road, so obviously when the exhaust is throwing all that muck out of the engine it gets sucked back onto the car. Not a good thing, unless you like cleaning your motor. Lots.

also one thing to remeber a lot of mk3's can have th eorignal system still on it, i noticed thi son my vr6 i had 2 years ago it was a 1992 j reg 127k and had original exhaust on, i think my golf now has same one on too, so you will only be able to replace back box if its been change donce before id check its not all one piece first as i didnt lol

Wow, what a response, some of it's bad but each to their own, right 

Anyway my excuse is that the exhaust came with the car 

also, I've never had a problem with muck on the back of the car, I do have a problem with the number plate fading and warping, is this exhaust related I wonder?

Ok basically i need to replace the exhaust, what's in fashion these days?

Is that not just an effect of the general shape of hatchback cars, rather than a design feature?  What you are describing sounds like ground effect to me!

indeed, although for some reason it seems to be worse on golfs, especially mk2s because of the bloody spoiler on the back window.
