popped in to regal this morning, and are very tempted to have the car chipped, even though the car is DSG they say that i would get an increase just by chipping it with no other mods, and will gain me 45 hp, for £500 ,im very tempted.... :undecided:

....I would take that "gain 45 bhp with no other mods" claim with a pinch of salt! Also, rather more important, I would find out how their remap handles increased torque in the context of a DSG box. Isn't Regal's remap offering GIAC and American?

Yup.  ALL American remaps have the "stratified" mode of the FSI disabled, so you will get shyte fuel economy, and probably increased engine wear due to overfuelling.  :nerd:

Do NOT use an American remap on a UK/EU spec car.

Its is offering GIAC robin to answer your question mate, whats the difference?

It is a US based remap, developed on a US ECU.  They are completely different to EU spec ECUs, in that they have the "stratified", or "homogenous" mode of the fuel injection disabled.  There are a significant number of scary reports from the US, of remaps on FSI engines (turbo and non-turbo) of excessive piston and cylinder bore wear, due to the overfuelling.

GIAC, and the other US originated maps may be fine on older non-FSI engines - but they are a massive NO-NO on our precious modern German FSI lumps.
