sharkfin aerial - no AM reception?

I swapped my standard aerial for a sharkfin one.  Now I have no AM reception!  I didnt have it on the OEM stereo, and I dont have it on my Alpine iDA-X001 either.  Its not really bothering me at the moment - but when the footy season starts, I often listen to games on Five Live when I'm out in the car.

Anyone else have the same problem and why has this happened?
Apart from replacing it with the original aerial (if this would even solve the problem?!) are there any ways to fix it?!

micalee - thanks for the links... but I dont think any of them help?

I fitted a brand new sharkfin antenna the day after I got my new car.  I had no AM signal with my original RCD-300 stereo, and have none with my Alpine either.  I am using the Autoleads Amplified aerial adapter to convert from the VW Farka (or something like that?!) aerial plug to a standard one.

I cant really ask the dealer as I am using an aftermarket aerial and an aftermarket stereo now!  I cant even put the original aerial back in as I had to cut the plug off it to fit on my sharkfin.

I'm not missing AM at the moment... but I need the footy scores in a few weeks!  :cry:

Radio 5 - essential for footie transfer news/rumours :rolleyes:

Most frustrating time of the season - what about the Tevez loan/transfer rip off - FA Premiership management is officially CR@P :embarassed:
