Get a mk2 now? Or wait a year?
« on: 03 July 2007, 19:41 »
Hey guys, I've got a bit of a dilema. I still havent found the perfect mk2 gti yet. But I have been wondering should I just wait a year until I'm 21 before I get one, as insurance will be a hell of a lot cheaper, seems to be a few hundred quid difference.

The sensible side  :nerd: tells me to forget about dubs for now get one at 21, then I can use that cash difference to buy a better golf.

The not so sensible side  tells me to get one as soon as it pops up and sod the consequences, besides insurance will only go down next year and I'd get a years worth of gti driving.

Hmmm

what do you guys think? What age did you lot get your gtis?

So the prices of golfs are going up? I cant say I've noticed. I'm thinking of getting a golf when the right one comes along and storing it in my garage now. I'm a student so I cant really afford to tax and insure two cars. A lot of things to think about!

leave it, sorry to be boring but take your time, save your money and look for the one you really want. in the meantime look around, research as much as you can and try to work out what model you'd like, ie small bumper/big bumper, 8v/16v etc etc so by the time you're ready you will buy what you want, rather than buying something just cos you really really want one and then spend more money making it into something you actually want.

but a gti now....

why buy a lesser car that your gonna want to splash loads of cash on to get it lookin / performing like something it aint never gonna be??

im nearly 33 but back in 92, i paid the extra insurance and had xr3i's, ashtray gte's and rs turbos and stuff, enjoyed em to the full... mates that were jealous of there dressed up wanna be cars etc... the extra cash on insurance was worth it... thats just my 2 pence worth...

if you get a half decent standard gti for not much coin (theres plenty about if your willing to travel and look hard enough), then its job done.... a standard gti will always look better and go better than a dressed up wanna be.....

buy one as soon as you can. with things as they are at the moment, who knows what might be going down in a years time? new laws, taxes and who knows what else? you might not be in a position to get one in a years time? do it
